Ladies wearing the cotehardie
Cotehardie with lappets and fitchets
The cotehardie was the main garment worn by women in the 14th century. This was a gown with a wide scooping neckline and a low waistline. The gown was fitted tightly with laces or buttons. Kirtles were also still worn, as well as chemises underneath the gowns. The sleeves of these garments featured tails called tippets and lappets. Some gowns had slits in them so that a woman could access her purse. These pre-pockets are called fitchets.

Getting hairstyle ideas for prom... Maybe I'll wear a cotehardie too!
Women wore their hair parted down the middle and braided. The braids were coiled around the ears or brought back to the crown of the head. These braids got pretty elaborate! I could never do that every day.
Check out these women with ribbon weaved in their hair. Love it!
Sometimes these braided hairstyles were finished off with a bedazzles mesh cage or a crespine, a wire-framed net.
