Romanesque... Roman-ish?: Clothing

Most garments around this time were constructed of heavy wool, linen, and furs. The colors to have were blue, red, yellow, and green. Not my fave, but I digress. Stripes and other patterns started to emerge!

During the Romanesque period clothing became a little more complex, as breeches and leggings were worn and tunic got shorter. This is the MEN of course. Women can't wear PANTS, are you crazy?!
Woman's bliaut.
Hey girls, cute bliauts! I'll borrow one another time...
But check this out: THE BLIAUT! It's the new big thing! The bliaut was a tight-fitting garment that laced up the sides. Men wore shorter bliauts and women wore them like dresses. The sleeves of this garment opened at the elbow and showed the chemise underneath.

Ladies began wearing corsets to achieve a smaller waist. Women also wore lots of different types of headdresses and accessories. Veils, hoods, and hair adornments saved these ladies from such DRAB clothing!
See those pretty little dangling beads? It's called perpendula. I know you thought they were really long earrings.

This semicircular piece of fabric is called a cope. It's basically just a cape but with an "O".
