16th Century, the Tudors and My Girl, Lizzie: Architecture

My last stop on my time traveling journey is dedicated to one of my favorite women in history, Elizabeth I. During her reign over England, we saw a slight change and mix of architectural style. The Elizabethan Style featured Renaissance motifs and late-Gothic mullioned and transomed windows.
The Burghley House

Again, structures are a lot more symmetrical these days. Elizabethan mansions had lots of  gables, parapets, towers, and chimneystacks.

Domestic dwellings during the Elizabethan period were characterized by vertical and diagonal timbers, high chimneys, overhanging first floors, pillared porches, dormer windows, and thatched roofs.

TIMBERRR!
