It's All Greek to Me!: Architecture

My first time in ancient Greece was SO eye-opening! My love for Greek food is a little ruined though, because it's like all I could eat when I was there, but anyway...
As you may already know, the Greeks were totally influential in a lot of areas, especially architecture and art. Religion was the basis of EVERYTHING in ancient Greece and it definitely showed.
Architecture in Greece can be divided into three styles and are best characterized by their awesome columns:
It was so cool to see the Parthenon!
Um, I think they need some fertilizer for their grass, AM I RIGHT?
Doric: The plain one!
Doric columns were the most basic. They have a capital (top) and no base and the tall part of the column has, like, 20 sides. These columns look the most powerful and strong and they totally were because HELLO all that stone and stuff is super heavy. I visited the Parthenon, which is one of the most famous Doric style Greek structures.

This is the Temple of Athena Nike,
the first completely Ionic structure on Acropolis.

Ionic: The one with the scrolls!
Ionic columns are taller than Doric ones and are more slender. They also have a bunch of pretty lines carved all the way down called flutes! The coolest thing about Ionic columns is that they bulge out in the middle to make then look straight from a distance and from a human eye level! SO COOL! These guys were so smart. The capitals of Ionic columns have beautiful scrolls and the bases are just plain ole circles.

Here's what the Corinthian column looks like. SO pretty, right?

Corinthian: The prettiest, fanciest one!
Corinthian columns are the most ornate. Just like the Ionic style, the shaft is fluted and bulges out in the middle so that they look straight from a distance. The capitals on Corinthian columns have pretty leaves, flowers, and scrolls. I'd totes want these on my house! The Romans used this style more than the Greeks.

Normal houses in ancient Greece were built with clay bricks, wood, and plant materials. The Greeks loved frescoes and were really good at sculpture. Look at all this awesome artwork!
I think I met these chicks.
The Greeks were totally diggin' the aquatic vibe.
